Cucumber Trellis

My cucumbers were starting to invade my tomatoes and we couldn't have that. So I built a trellis from some 2x4's and sisal and leaned it against the fence. It is not bolted down in any way, but is fairly heavy and I don't imagine that a storm could shake it. I also tied up the cucumbers and hope that they will follow the lead and grow up the trellis now.

First Eggplant

For whatever reason I have not had any fruit from this eggplant - until now. This guy is growing steadily and I'm really looking forward to an eggplant parmesan.

Raised Bed with Veggies

On Saturday after our purchase of some Organic Seedlings from a local Charity I had to put together a raised bed. This is my frugal version which will probably rot within 4 years. I used untreated pine (whitewood), but it was very affordable. Total cost was $28.67. The soil was a little more expensive, but I got bags of Jungle Growth and Miracle Grow Organic garden soil at1.5 cu ft for $5.72. This came to about $75. Putting it together was very straightforward. The first crops are in, from left to right, Red Russian Kale, Swiss Chard, Early Peas, Calendula, Sunflower, and Summer Magda Squash.
